En Résidence TV Series Brings Film Industry Spotlight to Shediac

En Résidence Television Series: A New Milestone for Connections Productions in Shediac

En Résidence is a new television series currently being filmed in Shediac, New Brunswick. The show is produced by Connections Productions, a Canadian company known for its focus on French-language projects. The 13-episode series follows a group of university students who are temporarily relocated to a senior living complex after their dormitory burns down, leading to a humorous and heartfelt exploration of intergenerational conflict. The series is set to air on the Canadian French-language channel UnisTV in September 2024.

In recent years, the seaside town of Shediac has emerged as a growing hub for film production, bringing not only cultural enrichment but also economic benefits to the region.

Connections Productions has hired a large number of local actors and crew members, creating valuable opportunities within the province. Over 110 individuals are working on the production, including 65 actors from New Brunswick. Some cast members have also been brought in from Quebec. Key filming locations include the historic Webster House—repurposed as a seniors’ residence for the series—as well as the Université de Moncton and École Mathieu-Martin.

Marcel Gallant, co-owner and producer at Connections Productions, emphasized the positive impact:
“Having 150 people working in this culture-based industry for a few months benefits everyone. We’ve had a lot of crew move here, fall in love with the area and with New Brunswickers. It’s exciting to see new faces who know they can count on a job coming up—it’s vital for the industry.”

The economic advantages of such projects are clear. Many members of the production team have relocated to New Brunswick, helping to strengthen the province’s film industry and creating sustainable job opportunities for residents. However, large-scale productions like En Résidence depend heavily on partnerships with the provincial government for funding and support.

Overall, En Résidence represents not just a creative endeavor, but also an important step forward for Connections Productions and the province’s growing cultural economy.
